Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to Outer Rim Reviews! Happy birthday to me!
Hello everyone! So in case you hadn’t gathered, Outer Rim Reviews turned two years old today! This time last year I put together a post on how this blog completely blew my expectations – how it went from a little corner of the internet where I could document my journey through the Expanded Universe to a small but rabid community of fellow Star Wars fans and book nerds! I’ll try to keep this light but needless to say, thank you so much for stopping by my page, for taking the time out of your busy lives to read my reviews or come talk to me about Star Wars. I am so grateful to every one of you and your comments and musings make my day every time I read them. 😀
This post I thought it would be fun to have a quick look back over the books I have read since starting this blog. Before Outer Rim Reviews was born, I had read a grand total of six Star Wars books – The Paradise Snare, The Hutt Gambit, Rebel Dawn, Shadows of the Empire, Truce at Bakura and Heir to the Empire. Since then, I’ve read 45 more Star Wars books, plus re-reading the original six! Woo hoo! So, take a look below at my current book list:-

Not too shabby eh? As a lot of you may know, my original plan when starting this blog was to read all the Legends books (well, not every single one but the ones that I wanted to!) and then I was going to read the new canon books. However, impatience got the better of me so I’m now just switching between the two. I’m still reading the Legends books in the order I originally set out – so starting pretty much with post Return of the Jedi era, getting right to the end of the timeline before looping back to the beginning of time with Dawn of the Jedi and reading the books in chronological order through to the Original Trilogy era. So this means I have a TON of fun Legends content ahead of me – there’s the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series, plus all the Old Republic and Clone Wars era novels to come! I may cheat again (hey, it’s ok to break your own rules, right?!) and read the Prequel era novelizations this year just because they look really great!
In terms of canon, there is absolutely no logic to my reading order. I just pick up the books I fancy reading! I’ve noticed that with a lot of the new books, they seem to focus on a particular character so it’s been quite easy to just browse my bookshelf and pick a book depending on what character kick I’m on!
So, as Outer Rim Reviews enters it’s Terrible Twos – here’s a little road map of my reading plans!
- By the end of 2018 I want to have finished the New Jedi Order
- In early 2019 I would like to be starting the Legacy of the Force books – be warned I have a lot of Jacen Solo feelings and may not handle this series with dignity or grace!
- By the end of 2018 I would like to have read The Phantom Menace novelization
- For canon books, I hope to read Dark Disciple, The Last Jedi Novelization, Master and Apprentice and Queen’s Shadow by the time Outer Rim Reviews turns three years old.
Hopefully, by this time next year, we will have had an announcement from the publishers of the “Journey to Episode IX” books – so I would have thought that a few of those books will jump to the top of my agenda!
So, once again, thank you all so much for your support! Whether you have just joined the Outer Rim Reviews party, or whether you have been there since the very beginning, I am grateful to each and every one of you and hope we have many more years of flailing about Star Wars together!
As a little birthday treat – here is a behind the scenes look at an Outer Rim Reviews photoshoot! Sometimes, you just get photobombed by a nosy little spaniel!!!
That’s quite a list! I fondly recall spending a ton of time reading the New Republic Era books back in the mid and late-90s while playing the Lucas Arts X-Wing game. Michael Stackpole’s X-Wing series about Rogue Squadron and the Dark Empire comics were probably my favorites after the Thrawn and Jedi Academy trilogies, though I was never convinced the comics ever really fit into the timeline all that well.
Happy blog birthday!

Gosh I’m so sorry for the slow reply! I skipped the X-Wing series but have managed to pick them all up now and am hyped to read them all, hear nothing but good things about them! The only thing I don’t really touch is the comics (just had to focus on the books!) but I do hear the new Poe Dameron stuff is excellent so I might have to investigate…
A belated thank you very much for your comment and the blog birthday wishes! 😀

Aww thank you so much! And yay for Star Wars readers! 🙂 I can’t wait for Dark Disciple, Ventress was one of my favourite parts of The Clone Wars so I’m really hyped she’s got her own book!
